Artist's Resume of Mike Otte

Mike Otte is an oil painter and resident artist at the Red Brick Center for the Arts, in Aspen, Colorado. He lives in Brush Creek, near Aspen, Colorado. He paints in oil and acrylic on canvas and adds epoxy resin to create optical nuances.

The artist pursues two different streams of expression related to subject matter. His work has taken voice in traditional land and seascapes. But there is another voice is ever present and jumps out in contemporary nonrepresentational and evocative forms.

Mike has exhibited works locally in both the juried and open venues at the Aspen Art Museum, Snowmass Villa Visitor Center, Aspen Chapel Gallery, and Snowmass Chapel. He maintains an open studio at the Red Brick Art Center.

Mike is generally self taught and has attended classes at Anderson Ranch, CMC, the Public Schools of Phoenix, Arizona, and has studied with the Russian artists from the Hermitage Museum, and classes in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Mike has served on numerous nonprofit boards in the local area including several terms on the Aspen Art Museum, and is presently on the board of theatre Masters.

Michael Wilson Otte

B. 1983, Aspen Colorado, Plein Air oil painter, currently a PhD student studying Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. Also holds a M.S. in Computer Science from CU, Boulder, and a B.S. degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Computer Science from Clarkson University.

Michael paints occasionally, between his studies, research assistantship, and an active athletic regime as a serious Nordic skier and runner.

He began his interest in art at an early age growing up in Aspen, Colorado. Michael took art classes for fun in high school and college, and enjoys the artistic process as a balance to his scientific pursuits.

Michael typically completes a work in one session, capturing the scene and feelings of atmosphere where he finds interesting subjects to paint.

B. 1986, Aspen, Colorado, Plein air and studio art in oil, acrylic, and mixed media.

Recent graduate of C.U. Boulder, Colorado, B.S. in Environmental Design. Now working for Theodore K. Guy, Architects, Basalt Co. as an architectural intern and aspires to be an architect.

Will paints in bursts when time permits, enjoys having fun, traveling, and finding new places to explore with creative objectives.
